EYE EXams and eye care
At Mertins Eye & Optical, we utilize the latest technology to ensure you have great vision and healthy eyes, now and for the rest of your life. Our eye exams are painless and non-invasive. With our Eye Wellness Exam most patients can avoid having their eyes dialated. Instead, we get high-resolution detaield images of your retina with our OPTOS Wide-Field Retinal Imaging and OCT retinal imaging systems.
Checking your vision (and prescription if needed) is just a small part of our eye exam. Even if you have great vision, it’s important to get regular eye exams because many sight-threatening conditions don’t have noticeable symptoms before they cause irreversible damage and permananet vision loss. Regularly scheduled eye exams are key to the early detection and treatment of these sight-threatening conditionsand. We invest heavily in state-of-the-art technology so we can detect, diagnose, and treat eye disease such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration before they have a chance to cause irreversible damage or vision loss.
In addition to performing eye health and vision exams, Dr. Mertins has extensive experience treating patients with eye infections, diabetes, glaucoma, dry eyes, allergies, computer vision syndrome, general eye fatigue, headaches, and eye injuries ranging from abrasions to the removal of foreign material from your eyes.

When a five-year-old boy was blinded after a regular eye exam failed to spot a retinal detachment, his father made it his life’s work to develop a better way to scan the retina. He created the Optos Wide-Field Retinal Imaging system, and it allows us to see more of your retina and protect the health of your eyes and vision for life.
OPTICAL Coherence Tomography
Our OCT is a state-of-the-art non-invasive imaging system that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of the retina, allowing early diagnosis of sight-threatening conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma.
